Xbox streaming issues

When the Xbox side shows "cannot connect", "game not responding" or stream dropouts, work through this page in order. Start with the must-read section — it prevents the most common problem.

Must-read: stream first, launch the game second

Some games bind to whatever controller was active at the moment the game started, and never listen to other input afterwards.

Wrong order: with a controller plugged into the console, launch the game first — it binds to that controller and the input sent from the MAN monitor no longer controls it. The game looks frozen. This is the most common Xbox issue.

Correct order:

  1. Close the game on the Xbox (return to the dashboard, quit from My games & apps).
  2. Connect in MAN and wait until the monitor shows the console picture.
  3. Launch the game from the monitor window using the keyboard or a controller plugged into the PC — the game now binds to the streamed input.
  4. Never use a controller attached to the console to start the game.

Already bound wrong? Quit the game on the Xbox and run the order above again.

Cannot connect: stuck on "connection failed, retrying"

This means the stream channel never came up. Work down the list; fix the first item that matches.

Windows Firewall blocks the app

Windows Firewall allows programs by their full path. Cancelling the first-run prompt, ticking only "Private networks", or an update that changes the install folder all leave the stream blocked.

Fix: open Control Panel → System and Security → Windows Defender Firewall → Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall, find MAN-App and tick both Private and Public. If it is not in the list, use "Change settings → Allow another app" and pick it.

Antivirus network control

Huorong, 360, Tencent PC Manager and similar suites ship their own network filter that ignores Windows Firewall rules.

Fix: open the suite's "network control" and trust MAN, or simply exit the suite and connect again — if it then works, you found it.

Accelerators and proxies on the PC

Process-aware accelerators (UU, Leigod, Clash and friends) drop the MAN stream channel even when Windows Firewall allows it.

Fix: exit accelerators and proxy clients before streaming.

The console sits behind an accelerator box, or the router runs an accelerator plugin

When a streaming/accelerator box (UU box and similar) sits between the console and the router, or the router runs a console-acceleration plugin (such as the UU router plugin), the acceleration layer breaks the stream media path. Two patterns repeat: pausing acceleration or whitelisting the console is rarely enough — the plugin's forwarding hooks stay in the path; and the console's NAT test still reports "Open", which misleads everyone.

Fix: connect the Xbox straight to the router (WiFi or cable); disable or uninstall the accelerator plugin in the router admin page and reboot the router before retrying. Re-enable it only while gaming.

The console is not ready

When the app reports "console not responding": power the Xbox on, make sure Settings → Devices & connections → Remote features is enabled, and check no other device is streaming this console.

Router isolation, or two routers at home

The PC and the console share one router but cannot reach each other locally — typical causes are "AP isolation / guest isolation" on the router, or both the modem and the router doing dial-up.

Self-check: run ipconfig on the PC and compare the IPv4 address with the console's (Settings → General → Network settings → Advanced settings). If the third number differs, two routers are in play — put both devices on the same one. Otherwise turn off AP isolation in the router admin page.

Stream connects but stutters or drops

Keep the PC and the console on the same router: cable for the console, 5 GHz WiFi or cable for the PC. MAN reconnects and continues the run after a drop; investigate the network only when it happens repeatedly.

Tell which side the problem is on: compare with the official app

Install Microsoft's official Xbox app on a phone, sign in with the same account and start remote streaming for this console:

  • The official app also fails → the issue is on the console or its network; work through the "Cannot connect" section above. Nothing in MAN can change that.
  • The official app streams but MAN does not → report it in the community with the step MAN gets stuck on and the exact message.
